Practice Profile

Adela's practice encompasses both contentious and advisory work in civil and commercial matters, with a particular emphasis on international arbitration and cross-border litigation. 

Adela acts and advises in matters at various arbitration institutions including HKIAC, ICC, SIAC, AAA and LCIA, covering a wide range of disputes including corporate, construction, commercial, banking and financial services, and international sale of goods. Adela has gained experience as Tribunal Secretary with top arbitrators in complex cases. Adela now sits as an arbitrator, including as a sole arbitrator.

Adela possesses extensive experience in various court matters, including the setting aside and enforcement of arbitral awards, obtaining injunctive reliefs in aid of arbitration or foreign proceedings, as well as handling winding up and bankruptcy cases, and shareholder disputes. She has also represented clients in white-collar crime cases and family law matters. Currently, Adela serves as a part-time Judicial Assistant at the High Court.

Apart from advocacy work, Adela regularly produces expert reports on Hong Kong law in Mainland court proceedings and arbitral proceedings. She has experience in testifying and being cross-examined as an expert witness.

 

Adela studied civil engineering and law at the University of Hong Kong with a full scholarship (HKU Foundation Scholarship for Outstanding Mainland Students). She was one of the top candidates from Mainland China with a strong science background, achieving high scores in the science stream in the Chinese National College Exam and winning national Olympiad prizes in various subjects. Turning to law as her career, Adela graduated first in class in the dual degree from HKU, making the Law Faculty's Dean's Honours List several times. She has won awards in construction law, personal data and privacy law, constitutional law, and published a peer-reviewed paper on US copyright law. Adela has received over 10 prizes and scholarships.

  • Acted for a leading Nasdaq-listed Internet company in a dispute arising from a share subscription agreement for a claim worth US$30m under UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules (2013) with proceedings conducted in Chinese (Mandarin)

  • Acted for a state-owned private equity fund in a dispute arising from a shareholder agreement for a claim of over US$20m under HKIAC Rules (2018) with proceedings conducted in Chinese (Mandarin)
